The practical questions.
Does Mic Check record or listen to audio?
No. It never opens an audio stream, records sound, transcribes speech, or uploads audio. It only reads input-device information and changes the macOS system default input.
Does it need microphone permission?
No. Changing the system default input does not require access to the microphone’s audio.
Can I use AirPods for sound and another mic for input?
Yes. Mic Check changes input only. It leaves your speakers and headphone output alone.
What happens when my preferred microphone disconnects?
Mic Check uses the next connected microphone in your order. When a higher-priority device reconnects, it becomes the input again.
Will every app follow Mic Check?
Apps that use the macOS system default input will follow it. An app fixed to a specific microphone in its own settings may continue to use that device.
What should I send if something goes wrong?
Enable debug logging in Preferences, reproduce the issue once, export the log, and email it to support. Include what you expected, what happened, and which devices were connected.
